If you are someone who must have a cup of coffee before doing anything else in the morning, soon you might be able to get your shot of caffeine at the bathroom sink. Colgate-Palmolive has recently filed a patent application for a toothbrush that can deliver a dose of chemicals like caffeine to the user with every brush.
Not only could you get a toothbrush that would give you caffeine while you brush, but the company is also thinking of developing other toothbrushes that would “invoke a sensory response” during use, such as:
-
Flavors like apple and lemon
-
Pain killers that could help babies with teething
-
Appetite suppressants to help with weight loss
-
Cooling sensation
-
Capsaicin that would give a warm massage
Illustrations of the toothbrush show speciality-shaped patches on the back of the toothbrush head that would show the type of chemical or medicine the toothbrush contains, such as a snowflake for the cooling sensation or a flame for the warm massage. The toothbrushes would last for about three months, like any other toothbrush, and then you would purchase a new one.
While we wait to see if this toothbrush will make an appearance, don’t forget to brush your teeth twice a day, floss daily and visit your dentist for a bi-annual dental checkup.
